Homeownership

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. Homes are sold at no profit, with no interest charged.

Who May Qualify

  • Demonstrated housing need
  • Household income between roughly 50–80% of Del Norte County’s Area Median Income
  • Ability to make affordable mortgage payments
  • Willingness to partner through sweat equity
  • Legal residency

Monthly mortgage payments are kept at or below 30% of gross income, following Habitat for Humanity International’s general guidelines.

Sweat Equity

Partner families invest hundreds of hours of labor — “sweat equity” — into building their own home and the homes of others. Exact hour requirements for Del Norte are still to be confirmed.
